In todays plant market, there are hundreds of new varieties that are introduced each year. The seed side of the industry comes up with improvements at a slower rate.
To us a great improvement for the seed business was the Wave Petunia. We have a petunia that will spread 3 feet in the landscape and a variety that will cascade over the hanging basket.
Last year the introduction of Imara Impatiens was another big breakthrough, with downy mildew as a problem. Imara Impatiens are the first impatiens walleriana with a high degree of resistance to downy mildew. We may have been the first greenhouse in area to grow these. Our customers are reporting excellent results with this Syngenta development. Impatiens may again become the most popular bedding plant.
